Jeep has unveiled the 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe, the first plug-in hybrid version of the automaker's best-selling vehicle. This is the second Jeep to get an electric version, after the 2021 Wrangler 4xe Hybrid released last year.
The company also announced an off-road version of the Grand Cherokee, the Trailhawk, which also comes with a hybrid engine.
It is worth noting that the company does not advertise a pure electric version of the Grand Cherokee, nor does it sell any battery-electric vehicles.
The automaker recently announced that it will be releasing zero-emissions versions of all of its vehicles by 2025, along with hybrid versions.
The Grand Cherokee 4xe is estimated to get 40 kilometers of all-electric range for a total driving range of more than 708 kilometers.
The company says the plug-in hybrid drive system includes two electric motors, one in the front and one in place of the torque converter in the transmission, a 14.0 kWh battery pack, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a four-cylinder engine, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. .
All in all, the car's system delivers 375 hp (280 kW) and 637 Nm of torque.
Drivers can adapt the output power to best suit their driving situation. There are three modes to choose from: Hybrid, which mixes torque from the electric motor and the fuel motor. And electricity, which runs on zero-emission electric power until the battery runs out. and eSave, which prioritizes the motor, saving the battery charge for later use.
Owners can also monitor the hybrid system through the infotainment screen, as well as the amount of force generated by regenerative braking.

The Grand Cherokee's 4xe also includes something called the Integrated Dual-Charging Module (ICDM), which combines a battery charger and DC converter into one and a downsized PIM power inverter module. It is installed under the vehicle and is protected by steel armor.
The company claims that its electronic devices are airtight and water-resistant. Jeep says the Grand Cherokee 4xe is capable of draining water up to 24 inches.
The company, a popular American brand, has been slow to adopt electric vehicle technology compared to its competitors.
