Sony announces Reon Pocket 2, a wearable air conditioner that can cool or warm the body surface by operating it using a smartphone app.
The Reon Pocket 2 looks somewhat similar to the original Reon Pocket model that it launched last year after being crowdfunded through the company's platform.
But the newly designed internal parts can achieve up to twice the level of heat absorption, resulting in more powerful cooling performance, despite its small size and light weight.
In addition, stainless steel, which has high strength and is easy to transfer cold, is used for cold and hot parts that come into contact with the surface of the object.
Sony says: It has improved sweat resistance in the second generation of the product, making it more suitable for light exercise situations.
The previous model was mostly marketed as something to wear with a special undershirt to make summer commutes more bearable, but Sony emphasizes more diverse use cases, particularly golf, outdoor activities and business.
The company has partnered with sportswear brands, including Le Coq Sportif, Munsingwear and Descente, to produce a line of golf apparel that includes apparatus pockets.
Sony also designed a neckband accessory so that the Reon Pocket 2 can be used with regular clothing, after previously you had to buy a set of Sony's pocketed undershirts.
The device uses thermoelectric cooling technology, and connects to a smart application via mobile phone via Bluetooth to operate instant cooling or heating, thus lowering or raising the temperature, as the device can absorb or generate heat.
The Reon Pocket 2 was released today in Japan for 14,850 yen (about $138), and there is no information on its release elsewhere.
