Dr. Laboun stressed in a press statement after the inauguration the importance of the project, which cost 4.5 million Canadian dollars, in strengthening the regulatory body's procedures in dealing with cases of contamination and smuggling of nuclear and radioactive materials and preventing the entry of any unlicensed radioactive or nuclear materials or radioactively polluted levels exceeding the permissible limit It guarantees the health and safety of humans and the environment. He praised the support provided by the Canadian government to the authority and said, according to the agreement signed between the two countries and the value of 30 million Canadian dollars, the Kingdom was provided with radiation detectors at the Jordan Valley crossing (Sheikh Hussein Bridge), the Mudawara border center, the southern crossing of Wadi Araba and the bridge King Hussein and Amman Civil Airport / air freight and passengers, King Hussein International Airport and Queen Alia International Airport / air freight. Secondary examinations of vehicles and passengers, in addition to equipment and devices for removing radioactive contamination and the provision of two mobile laboratories to measure radiation levels in the atmosphere. 16 radiological monitoring stations have also been installed within 19 stations available in the Kingdom to measure and monitor levels of radioactivity in the surrounding environment around the clock, pointing out that the Sector Regulatory Authority Energy and Minerals conducted last year with these equipment more than 1.5 million radiological examinations at all border crossings. Dr. Laboun stressed the importance of the oversight role that the authority exercises at the border crossings through its staff working on 88 radiation detection gates and four mobile radiation detection vehicles covering the land and sea border crossings And air forces in the Kingdom, all of which are equipped with modern and advanced devices - fixed and mobile - to monitor radiation levels and verify that they do not exceed the permissible levels. Butti praised the Commission's efforts to contribute to the protection and security of Jordan, stressing the importance of the support provided by the Canadian side, which included the installation of devices at border crossings to prevent the entry of radioactive or unauthorized materials, to protect borders and airports. Ambassador Petit affirmed the support of the Canadian government to Jordan in this field. The Law on Radiation Protection, Safety and Nuclear Security entrusted the Authority with the task of organizing and controlling the radiological and nuclear sector in the Kingdom, which includes monitoring border crossings and examining shipments, whether they are intended for import, export, transit or re-export through Jordanian territory by monitoring and following up radiation levels emitted from goods loaded in incoming vehicles.
