The tuk-tuk is now present in every street in all governorates, as it is a means of transport for many children to go to their schools, as it relieves them of carrying heavy bags, and also the housewife when she returns from shopping, as it saves her carrying her things and walking long distances, and the elderly are shortened They have distances, and among its serious defects is the spread of thefts and kidnappings in it and its driving by children, which causes many accidents and the spread of bullying, and after the Ministry of Trade and Industry issued Resolution No. 533 of 2021 regarding stopping the import of basic components of three-wheeled vehicles “Tuk-Tuks”, which include the base and the chassis And the engine, and this decision comes within the framework of implementing the state’s plan aimed at developing the transportation system and providing safe vehicles to preserve the safety of citizens, and this decision came after careful study by all concerned agencies and aims to replace the tuk-tuk with a safe means of transportation, in implementation of the presidential initiative to replace vehicles with energy. clean, especially “natural gas”, as the government aims to provide “minivans” as an alternative to tuk-tuks.

The editor of “Al-Youm” went to one of the rickshaw markets in Alexandria, Izbet Mohsen, to monitor the opinions of merchants, rickshaw drivers, repairmen and spare parts sellers.

The conversation began with Hajj “Attia Al-Haddad,” the owner of a tuk-tuk shop in Alexandria, saying: The decision to stop the import of tuk-tuks and spare parts will affect everyone and its impact on the citizen more than the merchant. But the merchant has capital that enables him to trade in anything else. The issue of spare parts is the problem, since he will prevent the tuk-tuk and will replace it with a car, and the car runs on electricity, so there must be electricity stations so that people can charge. Until now, we have not received the price of the new car. The overpowering citizen who bought a tuk-tuk in installments and signed the receipts is his family on the tuk-tuk. In the event that spare parts for the tuk-tuk are not available, he will stop and will not be able to pay the installments, because over the course of several years, the spare parts available to the merchants will be disposed, and neither the agent nor the distributor nor Ghabbour, the importer of the tuk-tuk, will be harmed by the decision.

Sayed Shaheen, a tuktuk dealer, said: “The decision to ban the import of tuk-tuks came down a while ago and was not implemented. The tuk-tuk is the source of income for the poor Egyptian. Most of the tuk-tuks on the street have very large debts.” With a driving license and driving licenses for rickshaw drivers, banning the import of rickshaws will stop my current situation, the driver’s condition, the owner of the rickshaw, the mechanic, the spare parts stores, and the situation of 5 million rickshaws in Egypt, and we say 5 eat from rickshaws.

Tariq Mahmoud, the owner of a tuk-tuk shop, addressed, “I have no problem with the decision. I heard on TV that they are about 3 million tuk-tuks, how from 2003 to 2021. If every year a million tuk-tuks are installed in 28 governorates, then you have a significant number, and will it go down?” An alternative to the tuk-tuk, and will the god who takes his place solve the problem of bullying? Or if, as we say, they are 4 million tuk-tuks, will it create 8 million thugs? Ok, vans will not have the same problems as tuk-tuks. The situation must be legalized. Licenses have been made at high prices. In the end, the licensed and unlicensed ones must take the alternative. Factories and companies, for example, will have to provide alternatives. How will the rickshaws be prevented from the market? Well, the base, chassis and motor have been stopped. Instead of preventing the need from being legalized, why were licenses opened, fines, files, tax, stamps and the institution paid? How will the open houses live, the working craftsmen will live, and the open factories will be closed. In a tuk-tuk, 3 houses will be opened, the house of the owner of the tuk-tuk and 2 drivers, and if a car is provided, it will not be the same. The price of the tuk-tuk will be incurred by installments and debts, and half of the people will not be committed, and life will be restricted. The tuk-tuks are not apparent. This is a matter of fact, and these people are opening homes and will not be able to pay installments.”

Some tuktuk drivers, including Youssef Elias, a tuktuk driver, said, “If the import of spare parts is stopped, the people who are present and working on tuk-tuks will eat how to live. Therefore, spare parts must be available. The decision to ban imports will increase the prices of spare parts many times the current price. We have a house and children And the new car that comes with 90,000 pounds. I have been working on the tuk-tuk for 4 years. People talk about the tuk-tuk. They see all the drivers as brutal, but there are many good people who eat from it and prevent children from riding the tuk-tuk by enacting strict laws.

Ragab Muhammad, a tuktuk driver, said, “I have been working on the tuk-tuk for five years, and I eat from it for a living and open my house from it. If the tuk-tuk was 44,000, it reached 49,000.”

As for “Muhammad Awad,” he said: “I am trying to buy a tuk-tuk to make a living and spend it on my house and children, and the prices are expensive. All builders, plumbers and plumbers are working on tuk-tuks. When the tuk-tuks are banned, people who have no work or capital will go where and they have homes and children.”

Ashraf, a tuk-tuk driver 5 years ago, said, “I used to work as a blacksmith with a door and window, and the blacksmith was standing, so I had to go and work on a tuk-tuk to spend on my children, so when the tuk-tuk stops, what will I do after that? Live".

Bilal Muhammad, the owner of a tuk-tuk, addressed the parties to the conversation, saying: “I am a graduate of electronic engineering in marine navigation. I worked as a sales electrician because I was not appointed with my certificate and there is no job in electricity. I got a tuk-tuk 4 years ago. She brings this tuk-tuk to work on it, and she gets her livelihood.

As for the tuk-tuk repair workers, they said, “Mr.,” a tuk-tuk plumber, started the conversation, saying: “I have been working as a tuk-tuk plumber for about 8 years.” Preventing the import of tuk-tuks will harm us very much, and it will stop our situation and our livelihood. We will be displaced and many people will go to the forbidden.”

And the parties to the conversation dealt with “Ahmed Al-Prince,” a tuk-tuk mechanic, saying: “When it is forbidden to import a tuk-tuk, we will eat from where, open other fields of work for us. I was working in architecture, and when he stopped, I worked in the tuk-tuk. For some time now, I have been working and earning my living in halal, so that I can spend on my house and children, and I do not want to go back to the mistake, so I worked among the people here as a mechanic, and I am basically a car mechanic, but the world is standing.

Hussein Mukhtar, the owner of a tuk-tuk since 2006, said, “The decision is good, but we are offered job opportunities.

Muhammad Hassan, an employee in a tuktuk spare parts store, said, “We are dealing with a large number of tuktuk drivers. We sell spare parts and luxuries so far. We have not officially received this decision, and if it is implemented, it will be a ruin for homes. Prices will increase because all spare parts are imported from China and India. We do not have a local production factor. If there are factories in Egypt that will manufacture spare parts, it will be a good thing. We hope that there will be local production of the chassis, motors and spare parts.”

Many citizens, who refused to be named, said that rickshaws should be legalized and children should be banned from driving them by issuing strict laws.

The question that arises here is whether job opportunities will be provided after banning the import of tuk-tuks for those who do not have the price of an alternative?
